Fetch faculty featured on Medical World News – DVM 360

Multiple Fetch faculty members have been featured, not only to showcase their knowledge but their talents and interests outside of work as well.

Medical World News®—a digital platform where key industry leaders across specialties such as neurology, contemporary pediatrics, and animal health discuss matters of health and wellness—is produced by MJH Life Sciences®, the parent company of dvm360®. Through different Medical World News® shows, these professionals highlight medical advances, have in-depth conversations about treatments and procedures, offer insights on unique practices or pharmacy designs, and share their hobbies.

Multiple Fetch faculty members have been featured on the Medical World News® platform, not only to showcase their knowledge but their talents and interests outside of work as well. Their stories include the following:

After Hours: Rock & Roll Vet Tech

Longtime Fetch faculty member Alyssa Mages, BS, CVT, cofounder of Empowering Veterinary Teams, shared with Medical World News® her experience as a vocalist in Hypnotic Eye Band, The Tom Petty Experience, a tribute group. When Mages was around age 8 years, she discovered a love of music through singing and performing musical instruments such as the piano and flute. Now she and the band travel around southeast Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, performing music from the late Tom Petty as well as Stevie Nicks. To Mages, being a performer connects her to strangers in a unique, special way.View more of Mages’ interview online. Visit www.medicalworldnews.com/view/after-hours-rock-roll-vet-tech

After Hours: 29029 Everesting

About 5 years ago, Betsy Charles, DVM, MA, executive director of the Veterinary Leadership Institute, and her husband of 27 years, Drake, received the news that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). During his illness, Charles and her husband discussed completing the 29029 Everesting experience, where participants hike the equivalent distance of Mount Everest, if Drake were to get better. However, in early 2019 Drake lost his fight with ALS and died. In honor of him and to find herself once again, Charles went on to sign up for the event that same year. However, because of COVID-19, she could not participate in the event until August 2021.View more of the Charles interview online. Visit www.medicalworldnews.com/view/after-hours-29029-everesting

After Hours: Vet Tech by Day, Comedian by Night

Veterinary medicine is a passion for Walter Brown, RVTg, VTS (ECC). However, along with his career as a veterinary technician, Brown is a comedian. Through his comedy career, Brown hopes to shed different perspectives on clinics by creating a sense of humor around things that might appear frustrating but, through laughter, can be seen through a new lens. By pulling from everyday events in his life in and out of the clinic, he hopes to make individuals laugh at the relatable content they all experience daily. He believes that through laughter and appropriate humor, he can put clients at ease about their pets’ treatments or diagnoses.View more of Brown’s interview online.
